The INFOCO product series of intelligent fiber collimators, couplers and controllers is intended to address the educational, research and commercial needs for a compact and smart optical fiber free-space interface system capable of adaptive control of the transmitted and/or received light. The INFOCO products can be used in a variety of free-space optical transmitting and receiving applications, in either single or phased array configurations.

INFOCO Product Series Design Kit

The INFOCO Design Kit consists of intelligent fiber optic couplers, collimators, and controllers. It addresses the educational, research, and commercial needs for a compact and smart optical fiber free-space interface system capable of adaptive control of the transmitted and/or received light. The INFOCO products can be used in a variety of free-space optical transmitting and receiving applications, in either single or phased array configurations (for more information on phased arrays see the INFA product series).

The kit presents the following key features & benefits:

  • User specified optical parameters including wavelength, fiber type and output beam character-istics
  • Advanced stochastic parallel gradient descent (SPGD+) control algorithm with controllable iteration rate up to 10 kHz

  • High optical quality collimation of a laser beam emerging from a fiber tip along with programmable laser beam fine pointing and steering
  • Automatic fast stabilization of the transmitted beam’s optical axis in harsh operating conditions providing compensation for mechanical and/or acoustical jitter and adaptive pre-compensation of random wavefront tip/tilt aberrations induced by refractive-index fluctuations
  • Adaptive free-space coupling of the received optical wave into a fiber with optimization and assessment of the coupling efficiency
  • High-speed and high-precision focal spot profiling and centroid sensing
  • Fast deviation measurements of the input optical wave angle of arrival and focal spot degradation caused by input wave phase aberrations resulting from jitter and atmospheric turbulence
